Stella Hill is the Americana/Alt-Country songwriting collaboration by keyboardist Josh Massicot and violist Liz Ristow. The wife and husband duo write songs that pay homage to artists they love – Dylan, Christine McVie, Randy Newman, Norah Jones, Jeff Tweedy, and Jackson Browne. Earnest lyrics, tight vocal harmonies, and richly textured arrangements incorporate their classical roots with shades of rock, folk and a touch of blues.
The band’s inaugural self-titled EP was released in June of 2019. It was recorded at home on the couple’s grand piano and at Dave Drago’s 1809 Studios in Macedon, N.Y. Their second EP, North Star, is currently in production with an anticipated release of June 2020. Ristow is a one-woman orchestra, laying down as many as a dozen parts on each song. North Star features collaborations with bassist Tim Isham, percussionist Kristen Shiner McGuire, and guitarist Josh Pincus. It is co-produced by Stella Hill and Dave Drago.
When they’re not making music as Stella Hill, Massicot teaches piano at Nazareth College and Ristow is an elementary orchestra teacher. The couple and their cat, Francine, are proud residents of the Swillburg Neighborhood in Rochester, NY.
