Months of study, culminating in a trip to Tijuana, Mexico have given Rev. Katie Jo Suddaby unique perspective on the immigration crisis. Her presentation will focus on the essential facts (both legal and humanitarian) of the complicated asylum process, the experiences of individuals seeking asylum, and interviews with lawyers and Border Patrol agents. What are conditions like inside ICE detention centers? Why are tens of thousands of people fleeing Central America? How is our government breaking its own laws? Who is benefiting financially from the internment of migrants? You will learn practical ways to alleviate some of the suffering through policy, social action, and strategic donations to the most effective projects (both locally and internationally). For anyone who is concerned about immigration injustice, but feels powerless to help: this presentation is for you.
