Immersive Justice Education Experiences

Food Justice

Not all families have access to grocery stores, healthy foods or fresh produce.  86% of Rochester city school students qualify for their school’s free lunch program.  Explore the reality of food-insecurity within the city of Rochester. Through video, simulations, guest speakers, communication exercises, work experiences, and tours this program will increase your group’s awareness surrounding this issue.

Housing Justice

A high number of people face a housing crisis at some point in their lives.  Many of these defy our learned stereotypes of “the homeless”. Explore topics of housing insecurity, shelter conditions, tenants’ rights, gentrification and/or historic redlining.  Programs will include video, guest speakers, and meaningful hands on service.

Environmental Justice

Environmental Justice encourages us to think beyond “just us”and consider generations to come.  With the use of media, guest speakers, service work and tours, we will delve into topics like consumption, alternative energies, recycling, unequal access to clean water, the impact of community gardens, tree planting, earth care, and personal health.   Prepare to leave with a few new steps to take home for a greener tomorrow.

Plan Your Own Group Experience with Us

Let us help craft your experience with a combination of the above topics or additional ones that your group would like to explore.   Our active Mission Immersion Planning Team can arrange a teleconference or communication to customize to the needs of your group. If you have something in mind, that is not listed above – please just ask!

All the above workshops are presented with the intention of challenging participants understanding of the topics in relationship to privilege and systemic racism. Through study, worship and reflection group participants will begin to discern further steps in how God them to respond in grace towards our shared world.

With their school’s approval, youth might be able to gain documented community service hours for curriculum requirements.

We are also happy to suggest places of interest and recreational activities for your visiting group. Rochester is located between the beautiful Finger Lakes and the majestic Niagara Falls.  There are amusement parks, beaches, eateries, a historic Public Market, and world-class museums and all within a 90-minute drive.
