What We Offer
The Mission Immersion Program combines action and reflection to experience mission in a deeper way. Our richest experiences often take place in the context of relationships – conversations that unfold as we work side by side, preparing and sharing a meal, painting a wall, weeding a garden, sorting donations. Our youth tell us they love interacting with the guests and staff at our partner organizations; they report feeling inspired by the work and appreciating that it has expanded their mindsets, taught them about other communities, and, most of all, created opportunities to hear the stories of the people they meet.
the benefits of our program
Our mission experiences build in time to reflect on the day’s events, to ponder our own call as people of faith, and to begin to think about what role we might play in our own communities to stand with our neighbors living with poverty, homelessness, and hunger. By combining active service with experiential learning and other programming, we not only extend the work of our partner organizations in practical ways, but we also deepen our own understandings of what living with these situations really feels like, what causes such suffering in our communities and what structural biases in our own systems contribute to perpetuating these struggles.
Along the way, we learn more about ourselves, the mighty God we follow, and the new ways we can be church together in the world.
